I board the train with a heavy heart. It's so crowded, as usual.
I was tired after a long day of work and the tot of having to stand all the way to sembawang from orchard makes me even more tired.
When the train reached Newton, this man stood up and let me have his seat. Though I refused politely, he insisted and start to move away from his seat. Gladly, I accepted his kind gesture and sat down, relieved.
As I started to feel more comfortable in my seat, a thought suddenly struck me. Do I look pregnant to him? Feeling desperately depressed, I swore to myself that it's time I start exercising again.
Just as I was sinking in despair, the person beside me alight and I looked at the man, thinking that he might want the seat. Instead of sitting down, he looked at a middle-aged lady and gave her the seat.
It's nice. He was just being a gentleman and giving up his seat to the ladies. I happily affirmed that I dun look pregnant. Our eyes met and I flashed him a megawatt smile, thinking to myself, how nice it is to be treated like a lady, for once, by a stranger.
And no, he is not a chinese or an englishman, if you are thinking so. And I dun think he's a singaporean.
As he finally took a seat after noticing that all the females ard him had had a seat, he took out a stack of his belonging from his shirt pocket. He has no wallet and his cards were disorganized in a small pile. And from in between the stack, I saw a single 5 dollar note and nothing else similar.
When I reached sembawang, I gave him a grateful smile and handed him a sweet. He made my day and I hope I've made his too.
